Success is the result of striving. The Hawaiian language has taught me to understand when to lead and when to follow. Achievement is the outcome of effort. As an example, we can speak the Hawaiian language and it will remain.I believe that only when we have a purpose behind the words we speak and carry it out through our actions, only then will the Hawaiian language truly thrive.
I thus hope that we, those of us who are part of our company and those we serve, will find a deeper connection with our homeland and its people through the Hawaiian language and this connection with place and community, and that we will continue to strive to fulfill our kuleana as administrators. Some innovations, such as Hawaiian language immersion schools, emerged to revive the interest and use of the Hawaiian language. Hawaiian agriculture was being replaced by a commercial plantation model, and the Hawaiian people's traditional link between land and its rulers was replaced by Western land tenure codes and “representative government”.My mother enrolled me in Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Keaukaha (a Hawaiian immersion school) when she started working for ʻAha Pūnana Leo, the entity that spearheads the Hawaiian language revitalization movement. Despite the power of the culture of shame that began in the late 19th century, it is interesting to note that, between the thirties and sixties, Hawaiians were very present in various professional groups.
This interest aroused a renewed interest in the Hawaiian language and in traditional cultural practices, which constituted natural elements of the dance revival. His vision of e ola ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (the Hawaiian language will live) is based on the mission of incorporating family participation into the educational model to normalize the Hawaiian language beyond the classroom. The State of Hawaii took over management from the Hawaii Housing Commission, a federal agency that oversees the 200,000 acres of land that the Hawaii Housing Commission Act of 1920 set aside for Hawaiian agriculture and homeownership. It's important to note that these concerns aren't universal: some native Hawaiians welcome tourists who show respect for the culture and environment of the islands.
