Pelekikena's Message

Aloha Kakou, to all our Loved ones, and Members of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club;

Today, we, the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club, have evolved into a Hawaiian Cultural Educational Society where Hawaiian Natives, partial Hawaiian Natives, and people of all nationalities have blended together forming a large Community of Families (ohana).  Our goals have also evolved by inviting in non-Hawaiian people as Associate Members who love our Hawaiian Culture, who embrace all the sharing of our Mana'o, and who are so willing to participate in all our goals to perpetuate the Community of Kailua of its origin of the Mythical Hawaiian Cultural Traditions, Antiquities, Civilizations, Spiritual beliefs, Families, Monarchy, History and the many Celebrations of Life.  We have come a long way by expressing and sharing our mana'o through the Power of Aloha.

The Power of Aloha with the many meanings and expressions of several non-profit organizations, the government, the visitors, the community, the families, the adopted (Hanai) families, the foster families, the children, the grandparents (Kupuna) and you the member of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club.

In 1960, our Kupuna and Community Leaders and Organizers expanded the Power of Aloha by expanding the Mission of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole by forming and chartering the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club. Its involvement included forming the Kailua Canoe Club (which is now an independant entity), fundraising to have Scholarship Programs to worthy students of Hawaiian ancestry, and perpetuating all things Hawaiian in the Kailua District.

We have members and need more who will diligently participate and be very creative in fundraising by requesting for grants, donations, activities, events, and celebrations (Ho'ike).   Partnering with many organizations, we all work together to embrace and improve our culture and community.

As a 501(c)3, fundraising is a critical aspect of our Scholarship and Education Programs; inwhich we have our application posted on our Web Site Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club.  The Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club has raised funds and granted well over 50 Scholarships throughout our 50 years of the Power of Aloha to our young adults who pursue to further their education and who have come home to become our new leaders in the community.

The Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club has mainstreamed with many Organizations that educate and share the Hawaiian Culture.  Our involvement has progressed in Community involvement in exploring, studying, learning, caring and partnering with various environmental organizations, for the Aina, the Wetlands, and the many historical sites located in Kailua District from Maunawili, Olomana, Keolu Hills, Enchanted Lakes, Lanikai, Kalaheo, Aikahi, Kaneohe Marine Base, Castle Beach, Kalama Beach, Kailua Beach, Lanikai Beach, Kawainui, Kapa'a Quarry, and circling around to the Ulupo Heiau area.  The Kailua Community District has now supported and expanded to well over ten independent Hawaiian Dance Schools and Studios (Hula Halau); which have participated in most of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club's Festivities and Celebrations perpetuating the many visitors who come to Kailua from all over the world.

Your commitment of becoming a Member of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club would continue the Power of Aloha, evolve and progress the many new programs and missions that we are about to take part of, formulating new committees for special projects that will perpetuate our Hawaiian Culture and all things Hawaiian, and finally to make a difference for the Kailua District Community in sharing your Manao and Knowledge.  We welcome all of you to the Power of Aloha.

Membership fees for the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club are $15.00  for the administrative cost to the Association and Oahu Council.  Filling out an application, updating your membership and history for club usage only, and having others join will help increase the Power of Aloha. There are many educational programs, committees, activities, events, and community projects that the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club is involved with, because of this, we welcome all of you who have a particular interest or desire to write down or express your Mana'o that you would like to contribute to the Power of Aloha.

As members of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club, we need to continue all the programs that we are involved in.  The Power of Aloha needs to be shared for everyone in the community to be apart of so that we could all gain knowledge.  Let us be accountable to our many friends, organizations, and membership by bringing in new members, renewing our memberships, and caring (Malama) for our past members who have planted the seed of the Power of Aloha.  The Power of Aloha is all of us; so let us make that difference every day and every moment.

With Much Mahalo, and Aloha,
Kahu Ryan Alena Kaimana Kuhio Kalama
President of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club
